Last generation graphic software have the possibility to extend their functions via external modules: the plug-ins you’ve found here are some examples of such extensions. These small pieces of software are actually working with Adobe Illustrator™ 5, 5.5 and 6 & Macromedia FreeHand 7.
Installation and use
The installation is very simple: quit from the graphic software if it is open, and copy the plug-ins in the appropriate folder (Plug-ins for Illustrator or Xtras for FreeHand). Then, when you’ll launch the software again, it will load the plug-ins and you’ll find it in the appropriate menu (Filters for Illustrator and Xtras for FreeHand). Please note that plug-ins normally work on a subset of the drawing (only paths, only text, only selected objects): for example, all the plug-ins below are working only if you select an object, so if you will choose them without any selection, nothing will happen.
Scale
This item allows the "real-size" dimensioning of a drawing, choosing the reference point of the scaling.
The user can also choose to scale the selected drawing by percent or giving it an exact size: if the Prop. button is checked, changing the width changes the height too and viceversa. A useful feature is to select a reference object, give it an exact size and press Global to extend the scale to all the drawing based on that object.
X-Height
This filter works on a selected text object (not on single characters selected in a text!). It calculates the “real” text height (i.e. the height based on capital letters) of the first letter in the text block and allows to scale the text proportionally. Please note that all the information about the font is taken from the tables inside the font itself: some small inaccuracies can exist. This plug-in doesn’t work with FreeHand (who knows why?).
Complexity
This filter calculates some useful data on the objects selected (paths, not text). The perimeter and area are shown, and a relationship between these is taken as a complexity index for the drawing, useful when the cost of a job depends on such a parameter. The user can also set a scale and choose a unit, to know real data about drawing yhen it will be processed (for example in signmaking).
How can I pay the shareware fee?
The “Register” application included with the software allows you to choose the way you’ll pay the fee and will calculate the right amount, eventually in foreign currency: simply choose the software you’re using and type the quantity. You can print the order to fax or send it via mail or save to send it via e-mail: please note that the credit card number you’ll type is encrypted to enhance security.
